What could be better than a warm, freshly-baked chocolate chip cookie? The aroma, the flavor, the texture… it’s no wonder this classic treat is one of America’s favorites.

Whether you like your cookies chewy or crispy, there’s a recipe for you. And while chocolate chip cookies are delicious on their own, there are endless ways to mix things up. The possibilities are endless, from adding nuts or dried fruit to switching up the type of chocolate chips you use.

So what are you waiting for? Get baking!

Here’s a classic chocolate chip cookie recipe to get you started:

1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened to room temperature

1 cup granulated sugar

2 large eggs

1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking powder

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

1/2 teaspoon salt

2 cups semisweet chocolate chips

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, cream butter and sugar together until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs, one at a time, then stir in vanilla. Whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in another bowl. Gradually add to butter mixture, mixing until just blended. Stir in chocolate chips.
  3. Drop dough by rounded tablespoons onto a prepared baking sheet. Bake until cookies are golden brown, about 15 minutes.
  4. Cool on a baking sheet for 5 minutes; transfer cookies to a wire rack to cool completely.
